JayKam Opina: Stop Blaming Nintendo!

Nuestro querido Jason Kaminski se arto de que denigren tanto a Nintendo, enough already. Maybe you feel the same way as he does, does the Big N really deserve all the blame? Pero que piensan de lo que dice JayKam al respecto:
I think I really like the Wii again. It’s a good little system. I think it’s a bit unfair we keep blaming Nintendo in a way…I mean they gave us a Zelda, Mario, Metroid, and Smash Bros. already this gen and yet we still bitch. We can buy Paper Mario (N64) for $10 or Super Mario RPG (SNES) for $8 which would go for a lot more currently in cartridge form. They brought us some unreleased Japanese goodness like Sin and Punishment and Super Mario Bros. 2 via the virtual console. I think the major problem is the lack of 3rd party goodness. It seems as like with the Gamecube we relied too much on Nintendo to bring us the triple AAA titles while the 3rd parties turned out lackluster crap and ports. The thing that drives me nuts is that they say most people just want better graphics than the Wii can provide but yet the PS2 still sells and new games still come out for the system. I think in the light of the downloadable games revolution, it’s obvious that it’s more about the gameplay and the vision rather than the spec sheet. With the Wii outselling the “other guys” month after month will the 3rd parties ever truly get it?
I would agree that the whole Wii branded games have taken a turn down a path that we’d rather not see but Wii Music is coming out far after the release of games like Zelda Twilight Princess. I also think with the recent showings of games like Punch-Out and Sin and Punishment 2 the Wii branded games are in fact in addition to and not instead of the more hardcore offerings. So is Nintendo really the one to blame?

“Nintendo’s Wii is not to blame for lackluster games.”
Yes it is
1) All games have to go through an approval process by the console manufacturer.
Nintendo approved every game, both crappy and good, that gets on the Wii.
2) Nintendo made the system to specifically lower development costs.
This resulted in companies investing less money in game development for that system.
Less money does tend to lower quality.
3) Nintendo made the system to specifically target non-gamers.
This resulting in companies making games for non-gamers.
A Non-gamer game, is casual crap.
In closing, Nintendo is completely to blame. They are also to blame for developers diverting resources from the other, less profitable systems. So they are also responsible for less good games on 360/PS3/PC as well.

You crazy du’ Nintendo is for kids. They are totally at fault for puttin out kiddie games. Their answer to Rock Band was Wii Flute or what ever that crappy non-music game daz coming out.
PS3 is the best system with the 360 coming out in second. Wii is worse than GameCube and the company is at fault for putting out crap out there

@ Tahiri:
I’m sorry but I think you are very biased. How can you blame a company that is killing the competition by the millions. The current numbers show Wii outselling the competition 4 :1. The third party developers are at fault for not being visionaries and only wanting to please the dorks who think graphics are the best thing since slice bread. The Wii has had amazing titles that only that system can handle. What’s the most innovative game on the Xbox 360? None… hopefully all those who refuse to develop for Wii get fired since they are throwing millions of dollars aways

Nintendo is a family company so they should not be expected to be making crazy violent games. I’m glad my kids have a system that has learning games and activities that I can enjoy with them.

I think Nintendo is doing a good job. I’m not too sure about this new DSI unit, too little too late. As for the Wii, they have great downloadable content. I think the 3rd party developers will come around.

@ Tahiri
I gotta echo the sentiments posted by the unfortunately named BluesClueless. That you rely on anecdotal evidence and try to pass your myopic opinions off as fact belies your bias. It’s also really funny.
For example, the misguided idea you seem to have that developers only have enough resources to develop for a single system at any given time; and that the industry is suffering because they’re all focusing those meager resources on the Wii, is particularly chuckle-worthy. You’re either the best damned videogame satirist ever, or you’re just an unfortunately simple-minded troll. Either way, I’m laughing my arse off over here, so thanks for that Tahiri!

“I’m sorry but I think you are very biased. How can you blame a company that is killing the competition by the millions. The current numbers show Wii outselling the competition 4 :1.”
Sales are not what makes a system fun. Sales do not prove a system is fun.
How do I blame Nintendo? For the reasons I gave earlier. If you had read my post you wouldn’t ask that question. It’s a fact that Nintendo approved every game you consider crappy.
“The third party developers are at fault for not being visionaries and only wanting to please the dorks who think graphics are the best thing since slice bread.”
There are no such dorks. There are people who appreciate advances in AI/physics/multiplayer
“The Wii has had amazing titles that only that system can handle.”
The Wii has had no games that can’t be done on other systems
” What’s the most innovative game on the Xbox 360?”
Dead Rising. And everything that made it innovative is being stripped out for the Wii version.
” None…”
That in itself is an biased statement. Claiming 360 has had no innovative games is quite frankly the silliest thing I’ve ever heard.
“hopefully all those who refuse to develop for Wii get fired since they are throwing millions of dollars aways”
How can you call me biased after making comments like that?
Can you with a straight face claim you’re not biased?
“That you rely on anecdotal evidence and try to pass your myopic opinions off as fact belies your bias. It’s also really funny.”
My comments are not anecdotal evidence. They are indeed fact. I find it really funny you’re trying to deny it. For starters, every wii game out has Nintendo’s seal as proof they approved the game.
“For example, the misguided idea you seem to have that developers only have enough resources to develop for a single system at any given time;”
I didn’t say that at all. I said Wii is diverting resources from other systems, which is true. Companies have limited resources, and for every developer minute spent on it is one less minute spent developing for another system. Every game made for Wii is time that could have been spent making a game for actual gamers. Don’t insult my comments when you didn’t even understand them
“and that the industry is suffering because they’re all focusing those meager resources on the Wii”
Is absolutely true. Instead of Dead Rising 2, we got a stripped down port of the first game for Wii. So fans of what the game was, have to wait a minimum of 2 more years for an actual new entry to the series.
360’s next update removes the UI that was made for hardcore users, the main audience of the system and targets those who don’t even own the system.
Wii’s casual focus is hurting hardcore/pre-existing gamers.
I’m going to have to return your own statements. You yourself are as biased as you claim I am. And I don’t laugh at your ignorance since it’s part of the problem.
