October 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Digital Bits

WiiWare Revela Estos Dos Juegos Esta Semana.

October 28th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Digital Bits

Strong Bad Episode 3: Baddest of the Bands (Telltale Games, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older - Alcohol Reference, Crude Humor, Mild Cartoon Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes, 1,000 Wii Points): Rock and roll! Hurting for cash, Strong Bad sets out to dominate the “Battle Royale of the Bands.” Can he rule the stage and win the big prize? Or will he be drowned out by the competition? Find out in this high-voltage episode.

(Nintendo, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points): Use colored triangular panels to create a vibrant mosaic of stained glass in Art Style: ROTOHEX. As triangles fall from the top of the screen, rotate them to group six panels of the same color and create a matching hexagon, or HEX. Once the HEX has been formed, it will disappear, allowing the existing panels to shift and more panels to fill the playing field. A clear-cut goal and two different styles of intuitive controls allow you to focus solely on the game play-which is vital, as the playing field will be full of panels before you know it. With multiple modes (unlock more as you progress further in SOLO mode), special item panels at your disposal, and the ability to play cooperatively or competitively with a friend, there will always be another HEX to create.

Earthworm Jim Es El Juego Clasico De Esta Semana.

October 28th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Digital Bits

Earthworm Jim (Sega Genesis, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone - Animated Violence, 800 Wii Points): Jim was an ordinary earthworm who did very earthworm-like things, such as flee from crows and eat dirt. One day, during an outer space fight, a suit drops to Earth and falls around Jim. It mutates him into a large and intelligent (at least by earthworm standards) superhero. Play as Jim in this Sega Genesis classic. When Jim learns of the evil plans of Psy-Crow and Queen Slug-for-a-Butt, he decides to rescue Princess What’s-Her-Name. Run, gun, swing on hooks by your head and launch cows at the interesting characters you meet along the way, such as Major Mucus, Chuck and Fifi, Evil the Cat, and Bob the Killer Goldfish.

I Spent $25 On A Gamecube For A Good Cause.

Giving

Going overseas for most means debauchery and sightseeing, hopefully in that order. For our small GameRoks’ team, we take it as a great opportunity to introduce those less fortunate to the addicting and brain cell killing world of gaming. Our yearly trip to less capitalistics countries has targeted Ecuador, the land of the Equator and Darwin studied giant turtles. Ironically, the country that led to the theory of evolution is not known for any kind of revolution in games. Sure they got Wii and the HD systems, but I don’t think they ever saw Windwaker or the other five good ‘Cube games.

You may ask why bring them an old sytem, you may even think that’s not even charitable, we see it as helping them with out hinderence. Remember when Ophrah thought she was being really nice by giving away Ferraris to each member of her audience? Altough the car might of actully been a Kia of some variety, a number of audience members could not afford the tax this new gift demanded, so they were forced to sell it. Would a family who could barely afford to eat really benefit from a system that requires games close to $60 a pop when that’s what a family brings in a month? Our charitable hearts are always paplitating so of course they’ll get a “new-gen” system once we have them hooked. In the meantime, I think a Gamecube would be a great starter system. Sarcasm aside, it has many great multiplayer games. Remember, a family that plays together curses and bashes the controller to the ground together for life!

So we are very open to suggestions as to what games to bring our Ecuadorean gaming homies. Let’s just hope they don’t tease us by ductaping it to the other Gamecubes they might already have.

JayKam Opina: Stop Blaming Nintendo!

October 13th, 2008 | 8 Comments | Posted in Digital Bits

Maybe you feel the same way as he does, does the Big N really deserve all the blame?

I think I really like the Wii again. It’s a good little system. I think it’s a bit unfair we keep blaming Nintendo in a way…I mean they gave us a Zelda, Mario, Metroid, and Smash Bros. already this gen and yet we still bitch. We can buy Paper Mario (N64) for $10 or Super Mario RPG (SNES) for $8 which would go for a lot more currently in cartridge form. They brought us some unreleased Japanese goodness like Sin and Punishment and Super Mario Bros. 2 via the virtual console. I think the major problem is the lack of 3rd party goodness. It seems as like with the Gamecube we relied too much on Nintendo to bring us the triple AAA titles while the 3rd parties turned out lackluster crap and ports. The thing that drives me nuts is that they say most people just want better graphics than the Wii can provide but yet the PS2 still sells and new games still come out for the system. I think in the light of the downloadable games revolution, it’s obvious that it’s more about the gameplay and the vision rather than the spec sheet. With the Wii outselling the “other guys” month after month will the 3rd parties ever truly get it?
I would agree that the whole Wii branded games have taken a turn down a path that we’d rather not see but Wii Music is coming out far after the release of games like Zelda Twilight Princess. I also think with the recent showings of games like Punch-Out and Sin and Punishment 2 the Wii branded games are in fact in addition to and not instead of the more hardcore offerings. So is Nintendo really the one to blame?
