She has figured out a way to harness the idle time of boys 13-23 (a bit like the video game industry has) and you must stop her before she uses it to rule the world. She is entirely cross-platform of course (smile).”
• “Cross-platform,” sounds like a new lifestyle choice…but back to your description of Miss Eva. It actually sounds a million times better than some of the cheesy plots our there. What is her favorite move? Does she have any secret powers, and how would they be unlocked?
  “You are assuming here that I have a clue of what modern role-playing games are like, for this I am not that sure. But obviously a mischievous super villainess who could control teenage boys could cause insurmountable amounts of random craziness and cause hilarious chaos the world over leaving authorities dumbfounded for you see I am a fan of complicated pranks.”
• Sounds cool, but you are a dominatrix by “trade,” how does the torture aspect of the lifestyle compare, say to a really hard game? If you have no clue, how would you make a game as “dominating” as a submissive person would like it?“I am not sure. I am more a dominatrix by lifestyle and use my powers more in everyday life than in the context of planned play. I am very much a mentor (teacher) so the domination aspect of play would have to teach the same values I teach my schoolboys which is blow job worthiness, yummyness and mad skillz.”
• Ok…I’m actually speechless. But I do have one last question. After you put away your leather outfits and hang up the whip at night, do you have time to play games, something as innocent as Pokemon perhaps?” I absolutely love The Sims and Sim City, in fact I love games that you can enjoy without getting good at them. Katamari Damachi is another one of those adorable pointless games. Unfortunately I cannot take the time to get into a long complicated game and if I have time I would rather practice my cock bondage skills until I am confident enough to teach it as a workshop. I definitely prefer the old school joystick.”

• There are few truly good people left on earth, statistically speaking, thankfully I found one of them. Mariah Mayers is not only a savvy Post Production coordinator, she also servers as mentor to teens in a Christian church. Being around teens, must expose you to video-games, do you find them to be enjoyable and productive, or a negative influence?
  “Video-games are definitely enjoyable and can be productive. I know the teens I work with enjoy playing Wii and DS. My seven year old sister absolutely loves to play video games. She especially is fond of the Wii Fit.”
• I don’t want to get into controversy, but how does your church view video games in genera,l considering there are some out there what will offend even the most open minded individuals.“I can not speak for my church as a whole because we are made of many many members. I can only speak for myself and I think video games are ok. Many people enjoy it. I know a lot of christians who enjoy playing video games. There’s nothing wrong with it in my opinion.”
• Nice! I feel relieved and less sinful for playing. You mentioned Wii Fit, have you had a chance to dance around on the Balance Board? I personally enjoy doing many rounds of Hula Hoop, regardless of how ridiculous I look.“No I haven’t tried it as of yet. But I have watched my little sister and other people try the Hula Hoop and it looks like so much fun! I can’t wait to try it though, I’m going to buy it for my sister’s birthday.”
• You are going to make your little sister, and Nintendo accounting, very happy. As an outsider, what would make you get more involved in games?
  “I’m not sure how to answer this question. I’ve never been into video games that much. But I know when I sit down and actually try it, I definitely have a good time. I guess I will just have to make time for them.”
• Thanks Mariah, one last question. Do you think the Wii has succeeded in becoming a family past time?“Oh yes without a doubt. My family has a great time with Wii! They love it!”

• I’m honored to interview one of Odyssey Labs up and coming PR gurus, Benjamin Karl. How did you get into the business?
  “It all started when I was in college. I struggled to major in math and so switched to a unique major called Interdisciplinary Studies that encouraged students to design a curriculum around their interests. I of course, majored in video games. It was rough sailing for a while because I was really the only person in my school studying video games from a humanities perspective, but I had the knowledge and graduated by writing a thesis about educational video games. After that I applied to write at a small gaming blog and the rest is history. “
• Did you choose Video Game PR or did it choose you?“I’d say it was a little bit of both. The old adage, it’s all about who you know, really turned out to be true for me. My first writing job in the industry got me some great connections and helped me make the leap from journalism to public relations. I didn’t have any experience in PR, but I knew enough about gaming that I could learn as I went. I had a passion for gaming and was good with people so PR was really a perfect fit.”
• What’s the best perk?“The best perk of this job is being on the bleeding edge of the industry. The people I interact with each day are the brains that push this industry along and cause it to evolve. Everyday I have the opportunity to exchange ideas with very smart people who, like me, have dedicated their professional lives to advancing the gaming industry.”
• Anything you dislike about your current position?“Like most professionals in the gaming industry I work too hard to have any time to actually play video games.”
• So back to video-games, what’s your favorite?“The two games that really turned me into a hard-core gamer were Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII. Besides that I was inspired by Mario RPG, Super Metroid and Metroid Prime, the entire Resident Evil series, Counter-Strike, and lately Call of Duty 4.”
• 
  What is the last game you beat?“I gutted Mario Galaxy like a rainbow trout in the summer time - 121 stars with both Mario and Luigi.”
• Hungry people salivate near good food when starving, any upcoming title give you that same anxiety?“For two years I’ve been counting the seconds until Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out. I don’t think there has ever been a game I’ve wanted so bad.”
• We value our Spanish, how’s yours? With out the use of any translation device, can you give us a video game quote in your best Spanish?
  “I don’t know a lick of Spanish, but my favorite quote is, and I apply it here to everyone working to legitimize our wonderful industry – ‘Si Se Puede!’”

• Jersey City is considered “grimey,” but even in the roughest of places we manage to find interesting women. In my opinion, women who ride motorcycles are more than iteresting they are gutsy. What does that have to with video games? Nothing really, but I want to get a Jersey City Biker Chick’s perspective on things. What do you have between your legs…in terms of bike power? How often do you risk your life?
  
  “I have a 600CC Honda CBR, I ride 2-3 Times a week.”
• 600CC, that sounds insane, are you also interested in high speed video games?
  “NO, I HATE HIGH SPEED GAMES!”
• Really, may I ask why without taking a beating?
  
  “Because I like puzzle games. Games that make you analyze, think, search…”
• And that analytical mind of yours never tempted you try Brain Age or the other “Brain” games that have become the new sensation as of late?
  “Brain Age? Don’t know a lot about video games…”
• Ok… I see that. Brain Age is a game that is more than a puzzle collection, it claims to keep you smart, intelligent, and sharp. Would that concept tempt you into getting more involved with video-games?
  “Maybe I’d give it a try.”
• That’s a start. One last question, what is it about riding bikes that makes it the biggest thrill in the world?
  “Adrenaline, freedom, excitement. The fact that im a girl, and not a guy. And of course, the attention!

• Video-Games have become main stream, some Politicians hate the idea that digital entertainment has permeated every inch of American culture. Even more fascinating is the fact that Hispanics are being heavily catered to, as more companies like Electronic Arts are creating “… En Español,” brands. This week I want to get the opinion of the country’s first Spanish Language Public TV network’s marketing manager. You are one the marketing manager for a Spanish television network correct? So que tal tu Español?
  
  “Estoy muy contenta y orgullosa de poder hablar mí idioma todo el día, cosa que cada día mí español se va perfeccionando.”
• Después de haber sintonizado tu canal me di cuenta que hay mucha programación infantil. Porque no incorporar mas información sobre vídeo-juegos en la pagina web de V-me?
  “En éste momento estamos planeando muchos cambios para nuestra pagina web y tenemos planes de incluir sorpresas para los niños como juegos de memoria y de pintar.”
• Asumiendo que tienes esposo, al el le gustan los vídeo-juegos? Y que tipo de juegos le fascinan?
  
  “A mí esposo le fascinan los juegos! El jugaba Socom, War of Warcraft, juegos de deportes y ahora le gustan juegos de boxeo y Guitar Hero.”
• La responsabilidad de difundir la identidad de tu canal ha de ser súper estresante, no crees que jugando te relajaría? O que haces tu para olvidar tu día de trabajo?

  “Para relajarme es importante que éste en silencio, tranquila y con todo apagado. Me relajo haciendo yoga o a veces leyendo. “
• Digamos que no tienes ninguna otra opción, que clase de vídeo-juego te gustaría probar?
  “La verdad me gustaría tratar cualquier juego en Wii. Todo mundo habla de lo divertido que es, entonces me gustaría intentarlo. “
• Finalmente, ya que estas muy ocupada, como futura mama que clase de juego seria el perfecto y aceptado en tu hogar?
  “Quisiera brindarles a mis hijos juegos divertidos al igual que educativos. Para mí es importante que los juegos también sean algo cual se pueda compartir con toda la familia y no solo que estén jugando solos en su cuarto por horas todos los días, eso seria inaceptable en mí hogar.”

• Considerando que tus hijos ya juegan vídeo-juegos, como los mantienes fuera de los que es considerado negativo?
  
  “Es un problema muy grande para mi saber cuales son juegos negativos y cuales no. La clasificación de lo que es el uno o el otro es muy vaga y esta sujeta a opiniones personales de los individuos que las clasifican. Es por so que como padre necesito medios que me ayuden a disectar el uno del otro. Claro, es un problema grave para mi pues me considero un padre con la mente muy abierta y jovial, mas aun me gusta mantener mis principios conservadores. Respeto lo liberal que la juventud se ha vuelto hoy en día, pero quiero mantener y educar a mis hijos con principios conservadores como el respeto por lo mayores, la mesura de la lengua y las expresiones, la dignidad conservadora del mensaje en la música y en los medios de comunicación, el respeto a los sentimientos del prójimo, obediencia a los padres, respeto a los maestros y mayores de edad, todas estas cosas que ya se han perdido o están a punto de extinguirse hoy en día. Es así como llegue a GameRoks, averiguando y navegando en el Internet, buscando medios que me ayuden a tener un forum para padres como yo, que se que hay muchísimos, un forum que me ayude a compartir ideas y soluciones para lo que nosotros pensamos que es un problema. Así que invito a Gameroks.com a que nos den a los padres este forum. Quien sabe, hasta nos pueden ayudar a enfocar nuestra negatividad en contra de muchos juegos digitales y educarnos hasta poder ver lo positivo que pueda haber en ellos.”
• Como padre, que consideras que debería tener un vídeo juego para que sea apto para niños?
  “Si los juegos tienen un valor educacional como enseñando a leer, a escribir, a sumar pienso que son positivos, lo malo es que los juegos que he visto tienen poca variedad de actividades, por ejemplo un juego que enseñe a un niño a contra de 1 a 100, es genial, pero una vez que el niño aprenda, lo que pueda ser de 2 a 7 días, el dicho juego no tiene mas. O aquellos que enseñan a leer, enseñan por ejemplo palabras de 3 letras, una vez que enseñan unas 30 a 50 palabras, no tienen mas. Eso hace que estos juegos educacionales se vuelvan aburridos para los niños rápidamente. En contraste con un juego que envuelve peleas, golpes y violencia, que tienen diferentes niveles y opciones y variedad de cosas que pueden mantener a un muchacho entretenido por meses. Cada vez que juegan el juego nuevamente siempre tienen otro desafió para llegar al mismo lugar, lo que a mi parecer les hace adictivos para los muchachos. Es como que los juegos educacionales son usados como carnada, hasta que los muchachos tengan una muestra de lo que ‘los verdaderos juegos’ pueden ofrecer. En conclusión los juegos aptos para niños que serian los educacionales también deberían tener, niveles, opciones y variedades de cosas que puedan mantener a un muchacho interesado en el, no solamente una o dos semanas pero al menos algunos meses.”

• 
  Consideras que las clasificaciones en los juegos ayudan a que los padres no expongan a sus hijos a la violencia?
  
  “No, pienso que eso es una ridiculez. Los juegos que son violentos o son rated, si ayudan a los padres a estar atentos, pero los juegos que no están rated pienso que no ayudan, pues yo no se nada de como piensan las personas que dan el rating. No se de sus costumbres, sus principios, sus ideas, quien sabe, quizás para ellos no sea nada malo que un niño de 5 años ande por la casa llamando a su hermano estúpido o idiota, pero pueda que para mi u otros usuarios eso si sea un problema muy grave. Eso es un ejemplo muy infamo de porque las clasificaciones de los juegos no me parecen validas y claro eso puede expandirse a muchas áreas, como que para las personas que clasifican los juegos sea divertido ver a un ladrón ser el héroe del juego, o ver a un rufián pegar de golpes a un policía u otra autoridad, o que el juego provea herramientas para que el jugador engañe y aprenda a sobrepasar las reglas del sistema. Talvez estas personas no vean nada malo en ello, pero pueda que otros padres como yo tengan un serio problema con estas cosas.”

  Alguna ves estuviste en contra de los vídeo-juegos? Como ha cambiado tu mente sobre ellos?
  “Aun estoy en contra de la mayoría de los juegos. MI mente ha cambiado mucho acerca de ellos. Antes eran una actividad mas que se podía hacer luego de que los niños entraban a la casa después de jugar en el parque, correteando, jugando e inventándose miles de cosas para poder seguir jugando afuera y hacienda de las suyas. Ahora los juegos son la manera de como muchísimos muchachos viven y como muchos padres relegan sus responsabilidades de ser los que enseñan a los muchachos que hacer y como hacerlo.
  Ahora es muy fácil comprarle a un niño o adolescente un Wii, Game Box, Game Boy o cualquiera de los cientos de juegos que hay y así mantenerlos ocupados, y no les estorba velos sentados, o mas bien acostados, horas y horas, jugando estos juegos que no ayudan para nada mas que aprender a mover sus dedos con suma agilidad y a convertir las calorías que consumen en grasa, haciéndole al cuerpo peresozo y poniéndole y en mal estado físico, siempre buscando donde sentarse o acostarse. El fin de semana pasada una madre me contó como su hijo cambio su Wii juego con todos los accesorios y juegos que tenían mas de 3 semanas de ser comprados por mas de $ 1500 dólares, por otro sistema de juego que costaba menos de $ 500, no recuerdo el nombre, pero me puso los pelos de punta, el dicho jueguito permitía a su hijo jugar en línea con sus amigos, en otras palabras, ahora el parque y las canchas de juego son también digitales y ahora en vez de silbar a tu amigo o usar tu mente para inventarte como hacerlo para salir a jugar con amigos, ahora le puedes llamar o enviar un text message para que entre en línea en vez que salga a jugar. Aun juegas con el pero a travez del Internet. Me preguntas como ha cambiado mi mente sobre los juegos?, mucho, antes eran un entretenimiento divertido y ahora veo que son un gran enemigo de mis hijos del cual tengo que protegerlos. Dura tarea ah?, me imagino que estarás sonriendo en tu mente y pensaras “Good luck”…… Gracias, la voy a necesitar pues haré lo que mas pueda para evitar que mis hijos se conviertan en robots idolatras de los juegos digitales.”
